Abstract
(EN) An improved method is provided for separating acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) and polystyrene plastics from each other, the polystyrene plastic including a high impact polystyrene (HIPS) plastic. The ABS and polystyrene plastics are shredded (12) to provide a selected particle size. The shredded particles of the ABS and polystyrene plastics are applied to a solution (24) having a solution density in a predefined range between 1.03 gm/centimeter cubed and 1.075 gm/centimeter cubed, a predefined surface tension in a range between 22 dynes/cm to 40 dynes/cm and a pH in the range of 0.5 and 2.05. In accordance with a feature of the invention, the novel method is provided for separating ABS and polystyrene including HIPS, two solid thermoplastics which have similar densities by selectively modifying the effective density of the polystyrene using a binary solution with the appropriate properties, such as pH, density and surface tension, such as a solution of acetic acid and water or a quaternary solution having the appropriate density, surface tension, and pH.
(FR) La présente invention concerne un perfectionnement d'un procédé permettant de séparer le plastique ABS (acronytryle/butadiène/styrène) des plastiques polystyrènes, le plastique polystyrène comprenant un plastique HIPS ou polystyrène choc $i((High Impact PolyStyrene)). Le procédé consiste à broyer (12) l'ABS et le polystyrène jusqu'à un calibre particulaire considéré. Les particules de broyage de l'ABS et du polystyrène sont mises en contact avec une solution (24) dont la densité se trouve dans une plage définie entre 1,03 g/cm3 et 1,075 g/cm3, dont la tension superficielle se situe dans une plage définie entre 22 dynes/cm et 40 dynes/cm et dont le pH se situe entre 0,5 et 2,05. Selon l'une de ses réalisations, l'invention concerne également un procédé de préparation de l'ABS et du HIPS contenant du polystyrène, deux thermoplastiques solides présentant des densités similaires. Le procédé consiste à modifier de façon sélective la densité du polystyrène en utilisant une solution binaire possédant les propriétés requises, notamment de pH, de densité, et de tension superficielle, comme c'est le cas avec une solution d'acide acétique et d'eau, ou une solution quaternaire possédant les propriétés requises, notamment de densité, de tension superficielle et de pH.
