Abstract
(EN) A composite material for controlling oxygen flux into a thermal cell (10) comprises a bottom sheet (12) formed to have a pocket (14). The bottom sheet is impermeable to oxygen. A plurality of particles (20) is placed in the pocket. The plurality of particles reacts exothermally when exposed to oxygen. A top sheet is sealed to the bottom sheet at a flange around the pocket to enclose the plurality of particles such that the particles cannot fall out of the pocket. The top sheet has a substrate (22) which is highly permeable to oxygen. The substrate is coated with an oxygen permeable silicone based elastomer (24) to a thickness which regulates an oxygen flux into the pocket when the top sheet is exposed to oxygen. The composite material further comprises an oxygen impermeable barrier film (28) bonded to the top sheet by pressure sensitive adhesive (27) for preventing exposure of the top sheet to oxygen until the body warmer is intended to be used. A method for making a top sheet material involves coating a silicone rubber layer onto a smooth surface, partially curing the silicone, pressing a porous substrate against the silicone rubber layer, and completely curing the silicone rubber such that it adheres to the substrate.
(FR) Un matériau composite permettant de commander le flux d'oxygène entrant dans une pile thermique (10) comporte une feuille de fond (12) configurée de façon à former une poche (14) et imperméable à l'oxygène. On met une pluralité de particules (20) dans la poche. La pluralité de particules réagit de manière exothermique quand elle est exposée à l'oxygène. Une feuille supérieure est appliquée hermétiquement sur la feuille de fond au niveau d'un rebord entourant la poche, de façon à enfermer la pluralité de particules et à les empêcher de tomber de la poche. La feuille supérieure comporte un substrat (22) très perméable à l'oxygène, revêtu d'un élastomère à base de silicone perméable à l'oxygène, sur une épaisseur qui régule le flux d'oxygène entrant dans la poche quand ladite feuille est exposée à l'oxygène. Le matériau composite comprend également une couche barrière imperméable à l'oxygène (28) soudée à la feuille supérieure par un adhésif sensible à la pression (27), de façon à empêcher que la feuille supérieure soit exposée à l'oxygène jusqu'au moment de l'utilisation du dispositif de réchauffement corporel. Selon un procédé permettant de fabriquer un matériau destiné à une feuille supérieure, on applique une couche de caoutchouc de silicone sur une surface lisse, on laisse partiellement durcir le silicone, on presse un substrat poreux contre la couche de caoutchouc de silicone et on laisse durcir complètement ce dernier de façon qu'il colle au substrat.
