A method and apparatus are described for determining the concentration of an analyte present in a sample using multi-spectral analysis in the near infrared and mid-infrared ranges. Incident radiation containing a plurality of distinct, nonoverlapping regions of wavelengths in the range of approximately 1100 to 5000 nm is used to scan a sample. Diffusively reflected radiation emerging from the sample is detected, and a value indicative of the concentration of the analyte is obtained using an application of chemometrics techniques. Information obtained from each nonoverlapping region of wavelengths can be cross-correlated in order to remove background interferences.

Cette invention concerne un procédé et un appareil permettant d'évaluer la concentration d'une matière à analyser présente dans un échantillon, au moyen d'une analyse multispectrale effectuée dans les gammes d'infrarouge proche et d'infrarouge moyen. On utilise, pour analyser un échantillon, un rayonnement incident contenant une pluralité de régions distinctes, sans chevauchement, de longueurs d'onde comprises approximativement entre 1100 et 5000 nm. On détecte le rayonnement réfléchi de manière diffuse qui ressort de l'échantillon et l'on obtient une valeur représentative de la concentration de la matière à analyser en appliquant des techniques de chimiométrie. Il est possible d'effectuer une corrélation croisée entre les informations issues de chacune des régions de longueurs d'onde ne se chevauchant pas, dans le but d'éliminer les interférences d'arrière-plan.
