Products having single phases or solid solutions of the formula M2R1X1 wherein M is transition metal, R is one or more of Si, Al, Ge, Pb, Sn, Ga, P, S, In, As, Tl or Cd, and X is one or more of B, C or N can be prepared by subjecting a powdered mixture containing M, R and X to a temperature of about 1000 °C to about 1800 °C, preferably under a pressure of about 5 MPa to about 200 MPa. The products so formed have excellent machinability. The products may also be present as composites, preferably composites which are in thermal equilibrium with the single phase or solid solutions of the formula M2R1X1.

Cette invention concerne des produits comportant des solutions à phase unique ou solides de formule M2R1X1 dans laquelle M est un métal de transition, R est composé d'un au moins des éléments que sont Si, Al, Ge, Pb, Sn, Ga, P, S, In, As, Tl ou Cd et X est composé d'un au moins des éléments que sont B, C ou N. On peut préparer ces produits en soumettant un mélange en poudre contenant M, R et X à une température comprise entre 1000 °C environ et 1800 °C environ, de préférence sous une pression comprise entre 5 MPa environ et 200 Mpa environ. Les produits ainsi formés possèdent une excellent usinabilité et ils peuvent également se présenter sous forme de composites, de préférence des composites qui sont en équilibre thermique avec les solutions à phase unique ou solides représentées par la formule M2R1X1.
