A low profile inflation valve (10) located inside a balloon catheter that enables a user to inflate the balloon and exchange other medical apparatus over the catheter while the balloon remains inflated. The low profile inflation valve of the present invention includes a first tube (20) having a lumen (22) and at least one region of decreased inner diameter (24), and a structure movably located inside the lumen of said first tube, wherein said region of decreased inner diameter of said first tube forms a seal with a portion of said structure. The present invention further includes a method of making a low profile inflation valve (10) using a first and second tube comprising the steps of creating an aperture in at least one side of a second tube, placing the second tube inside a first tube, the first tube being made of thermoplastic material, applying heat to a localized area of the first tube, and compressing the first tube to form a region of reduced internal diameter, the reduced diameter forming a seal with the outside diameter of the second tube.

L'invention concerne une valve (10) de gonflage à section réduite, placée à l'intérieur d'un cathéter à ballonnet. Cette valve permet à l'utilisateur de gonfler le ballonnet et de changer d'autres appareils médicaux sur le cathéter tout en maintenant le ballonnet à l'état gonflé. La valve selon l'invention comprend un premier tube (20) présentant une lumière (22) et au moins une zone de diamètre intérieur réduit (24), et un élément mobile à l'intérieur de la lumière dudit premier tube. La zone de diamètre intérieur réduit du premier tube assure une fermeture étanche avec une partie de l'élément mobile. L'invention concerne, en outre, un procédé de fabrication de la valve (10) de gonflage à section réduite utilisant des premier et deuxième tubes. Ce procédé comprend les étapes consistant à créer une ouverture dans au moins un côté du deuxième tube, à placer ce dernier à l'intérieur du premier tube constitué d'un matériau thermoplastique, à appliquer de la chaleur à une zone localisée du premier tube, et à comprimer ce premier tube pour former une zone de diamètre interne réduit. Ce diamètre réduit constitue une fermeture étanche avec le diamètre extérieur du deuxième tube.
