Abstract

An optical projector (10) is described that orients its optics engine vertically within an enclosure that is higher than it is wide or deep. The invented optics engine uses a prismatic cube for color separation or beam splitting, with prismatic elements within the cube being secured within a durable frame that mounts three color light valves in a predefined position and orientation relative to the prismatic cube. In order to improve image quality and brightness, red and blue beams are S-polarized, as is conventional, but the green beam is P-polarized. The projector preferably includes a frame (12) having a footing portion (14) for resting on a support surface, a light source high above the footing portion, optical convolution structure (24) downstream from the light source for reverse-bending downwardly flowing light from the source, light modulation structure (46) near the reverse bend region for infusing the ligth with image information and for directing modulated light upwardly in a projectable, image-containing stream of light and outward-projection directing structure high on the frame for receiving and outwardly directing such stream of light.

La présente invention concerne un projecteur optique (10) qui oriente son moteur d'optique verticalement à l'intérieur d'une enceinte plus haute que large ou profonde. Le moteur de l'optique utilise un cube prismatique pour la séparation des couleurs ou le découpage de faisceau, les éléments prismatiques contenus dans le cube étant maintenus dans un bâti durable supportant les trois modulateurs de lumière, en une position et une orientation définies par rapport au cube prismatique. Pour améliorer la qualité et la brillance de l'image, les faisceaux du rouge et du bleu sont en polarisation S, ce qui est conventionnel, mais le vert est en polarisation P. Le projecteur est constitué de préférence d'un bâti (12) muni d'un pied (14) pour l'appui sur une surface de support, d'une source lumineuse placée en hauteur par rapport au pied, d'une structure de convolution optique (24) en aval de la source lumineuse assurant l'inflexion inverse, vers le bas, de la lumière issue de la source, une structure de modulation de la lumière (46) disposée à proximité de la zone d'inflexion inverse et modulant la lumière au moyen de l'information image et dirigeant vers le haut la lumière modulée sous forme d'un flux lumineux projetable vecteur d'image, et une structure dirigeant vers le bâti la lumière projetée vers l'extérieur de façon à recevoir et diriger vers l'extérieur un tel flux de lumière.
