Process for alcoholizing and hydrolysing a flexible polyurethane foam by bringing a flexible polyurethane foam in contact with an alcoholizing polyol, allowing the foam and the polyol to react in the presence of a catalyst which enhances alcoholysis and hydrolysis of the foam in an amount of 0.001 to 0.25 and preferably 0.001 to 0.08 % by weight based on the weight of the foam, then allowing the mixture to separate in an upper phase and a lower phase and collecting these phases in separate containers, wherein the hydrolysis is conducted by adding water and allowing the mixture to react with the water after the foam has been combined with the polyol and before the mixture is allowed to separate.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour alcooliser et hydrolyser une mousse de polyuréthane souple. Ce procédé consiste à placer cette mousse en contact avec un polyol alcoolisant, et à laisser la mousse et le polyol réagir en présence d'un catalyseur qui favorise l'alcoolyse et l'hydrolyse de la mousse à raison de 0,001 à 0, 25 et, de préférence, 0,001 à 0,08 % en poids, en fonction du poids de la mousse. On laisse ensuite le mélange se séparer en une phase supérieure et une phase inférieure, et on recueille ces phases dans des récipients séparés. L'hydrolyse est effectuée dans ces récipients en ajoutant de l'eau et en laissant le mélange réagir avec de l'eau une fois la mousse combinée au polyol et avant la séparation de ce mélange.
