Es wird ein Verfahren zur Herstellung von gamma-Butyrolacton durch katalytische Hydrierung von Maleinsäureanhydrid, Bernsteinsäureanhydrid oder deren Säuren in der Dampfphase in Gegenwart von Katalysatoren auf der Basis von Kupferoxid und Aluminiumoxid in reduzierter Form beschrieben, das dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß man zur Durchführung der Reaktion einen Katalysator verwendet, der auf der Basis von 50 bis 95 Gew.-% Kupferoxid, 3 bis 30 Gew.-% Aluminiumoxid und 0 bis 25 Gew.-% eines Binders aufgebaut ist. Vorzugsweise ist der Katalysator auf der Basis von 83,5 bis 85,5 Gew.-% Kupferoxid, 9 - 11 Gew.-% Aluminiumoxid und 4,5 bis 6,5 Gew.-% Graphit aufgebaut. Das erhaltene Reaktionsgemisch kann direkt ohne Abtrennung von Wasser weiterverwendet werden, z.B. zur Herstellung von N-Methylpyrrolidon.

The invention relates to a process for the preparation of gamma-butyrolactone by catalytic hydrogenation of maleic acid anhydride, succinic acid anhydride or the acids thereof in the vapour phase in the presence of catalysts based on copper oxide and aluminium oxide after reduction. Said process is characterised in that a catalyst used to carry out the reaction consists of from 50 to 95 % by weight of copper oxide, 3 to 30 % by weight of aluminium oxide and 0 to 25 % by weight of a binder. The catalyst preferably consists of from 83.5 to 85.5 % by weight of copper oxide, 9-11 % by weight of aluminium oxide and 4.5 to 6.5 % by weight of graphite. The reaction mixture obtained can be used, without the removal of water, directly for other applications, e.g. for the preparation of N-methylpyrrolidone.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de gamma-butyrolactone par hydrogénation catalytique d'anhydride d'acide maléique, d'anhydride d'acide succinique ou de leurs acides en phase vapeur en présence de catalyseurs à base d'oxyde de cuivre et d'oxyde d'aluminium après réduction. Ce procédé se caractérise en ce que pour réaliser la réaction, on utilise un catalyseur comprenant entre 50 et 95 % en poids d'oxyde de cuivre, entre 3 et 30 % en poids d'oxyde d'aluminium et entre 0 et 25 % en poids d'un liant. Le catalyseur comprend de préférence entre 83, 5 et 85,5 % en poids d'oxyde de cuivre, entre 9 et 11 % en poids d'oxyde d'aluminium et entre 4,5 et 6,5 % en poids de graphite. Le mélange réactionnel obtenu peut être utilisé directement pour d'autres applications, sans séparation de l'eau, par ex. pour préparer de la N-méthylpyrrolidone.
