(EN)The proposed production of 1,6-hexane diol involves the following steps: a) epoxybutadiene is reacted in the presence of a metathesis catalyst, ethene being broken down to bisepoxihexatrienes of formulae (Ia) and (Ib); and b) these bisepoxihexatrienes are then hydrated with hydrogen to form 1,6-hexane diol.
