(EN)A process for improving the mechanical properties, particularly the flexural rigidity, of aramid fibers by directly depositing a diamond-like-carbon coating onto the surface of the fibers. Diamond-like-carbon (DLC) coated aramid fibers having increased flexural rigidity are also disclosed. DLC coated aramid fibers show an increase in flexural rigidity and suppression of low yielding behavior when compared to uncoated aramid fibers.
(FR)La présente invention concerne un procédé permettant d'améliorer les propriétés mécaniques, en particulier la rigidité à la flexion, des fibres aramide. Ce procédé consiste à déposer un enrobage de carbone du type diamant sur la surface des fibres. L'invention concerne également des fibres aramide enrobées de carbone du type diamant (DLC) et présentant une rigidité accrue à la flexion. De telles fibres aramide à enrobage DLC possèdent une rigidité accrue à la flexion et permettent d'éviter des performances à limite de contrainte faible, par opposition aux fibres aramide non enrobées.
