Abstract:
(EN) An optical transmitter (1) includes a directly modulated semiconductor laser (2) and a non-linear optical intensity modulator (3) which is connected in series with the output of the laser. High frequency analogue modulating signals are applied both to the laser and to the modulator. The modulator has a transfer characteristic such that it cancels intermodulation distortion in the output from the laser, to give a source with an improved dynamic range. The transmitter is suitable for use in an analogue optical distribution system for cellular radio.
(FR) Emetteur optique (1) comprenant un laser à semi-conducteurs à modulation directe (2) et un modulateur d'intensité optique non linéaire (3) relié en série avec la sortie du laser. Des signaux de modulation analogiques haute fréquence sont appliqués à la fois au laser et au modulateur. Le modulateur a une caractéristique de transfert telle qu'il annule la distorsion d'intermodulation dans la sortie provenant du laser, donnant une source à amplitude dynamique améliorée. L'émetteur est adapté pour être utilisé dans un système de distribution optique analogique destiné à la radio cellulaire.
