Abstract:
(EN) A solid state laser has a slab of lasing material (5). The slab (5) is elongate having a rectangular cross section with the lower face (5a) of the slab contacting a slab mount (6) which is of a high thermal conductivity material. Energy to drive the lasing medium is provided by a flash lamp (8). Upper and lower faces (5a, 5b) of the slab (5) are polished to an optically smooth finish so that light is able to propagate in a generally axial direction through the slab (5). Side faces (5c, 5d) of the slab (5) are polished and then re-roughened to provide a finish with a surface damage zone comparable in depth to the wavelength of the lasing emission. For a lasing wavelength of 1 $g(m)m, the depth of surface damage is in the region of 1 $g(m)m.
(FR) Un laser à solide comprend une plaque de milieu laser (5). La plaque (5) est allongée et elle a une section transversale rectangulaire, avec une face inférieure (5a) de la plaque venant en contact avec un support (6) réalisé en un matériau à haute conductivité thermique. L'énergie pour activer le milieu laser est apportée par une lampe éclair (8). Les faces supérieure et inférieure (5a, 5b) de la plaque (5) sont polies pour avoir un fini optiquement lisse, ce qui permet à la lumière de se propager dans une direction généralement axiale à travers la plaque (5). Les faces latérales (5c, 5d) de la plaque (5) sont polies et ensuite rendues à nouveau rugueuses pour avoir une rugosité de surface d'une profondeur comparable à la longueur d'onde de l'émission laser. Pour une longueur d'onde laser de 1 $g(m)m, la profondeur de la rugosité est au voisinage de 1 $g(m)m.
