Abstract:
(EN) A low friction non-gaussian surface is provided by a method of surface roughness distribution design using probability density functions in contact modeling to determine skewness and kurtosis values which minimize real area of contact with another surface and minimize meniscus force and static and kinetic friction. Magnetic storage media surfaces are described having a range of positive skewness values and high positive kurtosis values, which, the design method of invention indicates, produce minimal real area of contact with a contacting surface, reduction of meniscus forces of a lubricating and/or other liquid layers, and corresponding reduction in static and kinetic friction. The invention is applicable to the design and manufacture of any type of load bearing surface where reduction of static and kinetic friction is desired.
(FR) L'invention se rapporte à une surface non gaussienne à frottement réduit et à un procédé visant à mettre au point la répartition de la rugosité d'une surface à l'aide de fonctions de densité dans la modélisation de paramètres de contact afin de déterminer des valeurs de gauchissement et d'aplatissement qui réduisent la zone réelle de contact avec une autre surface et minimisent les forces méniscales et le frottement statique et cinétique. Les surfaces des supports d'enregistrement magnétiques de l'invention ont une plage de valeurs de gauchissement positives et de valeurs d'aplatissement très positives. Le procédé de mise au point de l'invention consiste à obtenir une zone réelle minimale de contact avec une surface de contact, réduire les forces méniscales d'une couche lubrifiante et/ou d'autres couches liquides, et réduire parallèlement le frottement statique et cinétique. L'invention peut s'appliquer à la mise au point et à la fabrication de tous types de surfaces porteuses dont on souhaite réduire le frottement statique et cinétique.
