Abstract:
(EN) Compositions and methods for promoting blood component survival are described. Typically, the compositions include a population of blood components, e.g., RBCs, and an antioxidant, e.g., a lazaroid. The methods of the invention include the steps of contacting, $i(in vitro), a population of oxidatively stressed blood components with an antioxidant in an amount and over a period of time effective to protect against oxidative stress-induced blood component damage or in an amount and over a period of time effective to increase the viability of the blood components, e.g., for a period of time greater than 28 days. Methods for inhibiting oxidative stress-induced leukocyte-mediated damage to a population of blood components are also described. These methods include contacting a population of blood components which includes leukocytes and at least one additional type of blood component with an antioxidant in an amount and over a period of time effective to protect against oxidative stress-induced leukocyte-mediated blood component damage.
(FR) Compositions et procédés de stimulation de la survie d'un composant du sang. Ces compositions renferment, de manière caractéristique, une population de composants du sang, par exemple des hématies, et un antioxydant, par exemple un lazaroïde. Les procédés recouvrent les étapes consistant à mettre une population de composants du sang soumis à un stress oxydatif au contact $i(in vitro) d'un antioxydant dans des proportions et pendant un laps de temps suffisants pour assurer la protection de ces composants du sang soumis à un stress oxydatif contre une altération ou bien dans des proportions et pendant un laps de temps suffisants pour accroître la viabilité de ces composants du sang, par exemple pendant une période supérieure à 28 jours. L'invention porte également sur des procédés de prévention des altérations induites par un stress oxydatif à médiation par leucocytes sur une population de composants du sang. Ces procédés consistent à mettre une population de composants du sang renfermant des leucocytes et, au minimum, un autre type de composant du sang, en contact avec un antioxydant dans des proportions et pendant un laps de temps suffisants pour assurer leur protection contre les altérations desdits composants du sang induites par un stress oxydatif à médiation par leucocytes.
