CLAIMS

1. Cationic organic peroxyacid having the general formula

R, -(C0NH)p - (CH2)Z - N+ -(CHj)y - (C0NH)w - R4 - C03H

wherein:
R, is an optionally substituted, linear or branched, C8-C12 alkyl or alkenyl group;
R2 and R3 are each a methyl group;
R4 is an optionally substituted, linear or branched C3 -C5 alkyl or alkenyl group;
p is 0 or 1; z is an integer selected from 0-3;
y is an integer selected from 0-5; w is 0 or 1; and
X" is a counter anion.

2. Peroxyacid according to claim 1, wherein p, z, y, and w are all 0.

3. Peroxyacid according to claim 1 or 2 , wherein R, is an unsubstituted linear C8-C12 alkyl group.

4. Peroxyacid according to any of claims 1-3, wherein R4 is an unsubstituted, linear C3 - Cs alkyl group.

5. Peroxyacid according to claim 4, wherein R4 is an unsubstituted, linear C5 alkyl group.

6. Peroxyacid according to any of claims 1-5, wherein X" is selected from the group consisting of N03", HS0~, S042*, CH3S04", and R5- (0) p-S03", wherein Rs is a C2-C20 alkyl group, alkenyl group, or alkyl substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, and p is 0 or 1.

7. Peroxyacid according to claim 6, wherein X" is selected from sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) , sodium fatty acid alpha sulphonate (SFAS) and tosylate.

8. Bleaching detergent composition, comprising from 3 to 40% by weight of one or more surface-active compounds, from 5 to 80% by weight of one or more detergency builders and an effective amount (as defined herein) of a cationic peroxyacid according to any of claims 1-7, as the bleach componen .

9. Composition according to claim 8, wherein the cationic peroxyacid is present at a concentration of from 0.5 to

15% by weight.

10. Bleaching additive composition, comprising from 50 to 90% by weight of a cationic peroxyacid accoding to any of claims 1-7, as the bleach component.
