Abstract:
(EN) A process for the continuous preparation of non-expanded honeycomb core from non-precorrugated web involves the progressive corrugation and consolidation of web by a corrugating/consolidating unit containing corrugating and consolidating elongate teeth which traverses a bed unit containing sets of former bars (1 and 4), forming a half cell height of honeycomb on each pass. A plurality of node-antinode demes of the topmost half cell layer being formed are consolidated while new corrugations and associated node-antinode demes are being formed. The process allows for more lengthy consolidation time, a smaller temperature differential between consolidating teeth and the node-antinode demes being consolidated, and further allows the corrugating and consolidation temperatures to be substantially independent of each other. The process may be implemented through use of a corrugating/consolidating unit having a travelling belt containing corrugating and/or consolidating teeth which may be individually and selectively heated. The process and apparatus allow production of honeycomb even from thin thermoplastic web materials at high production rates. In a preferred embodiment, the teeth are radiant energy transmissive teeth associated with a source of radiant energy directed through the teeth toward the bottom, node-antinode contacting face.
(FR) Procédé pour la préparation continue d'une partie centrale non expansée en nid d'abeille à partir d'une bande non préondulée, selon lequel la préondulation et la consolidation progressives de ladite bande sont effectuées par une unité d'ondulation/consolidation pourvue de dents allongées d'ondulation et de consolidation qui traversent une unité de support contenant des jeux de barres de formage (1 et 4) formant une demi-hauteur de cellule de nid d'abeille à chaque passage. Une pluralité de surfaces de creux et de bosses de la couche supérieure de demi-cellule formée sont consolidées tandis que de nouvelles ondulations et des surfaces associées creux/bosse sont formées. Ledit procédé permet une durée de consolidation plus longue, un différentiel de température réduit entre les dents de consolidation et les surfaces de creux et de bosses consolidées, et permet en outre de fixer de manière indépendante les température d'ondulation et de consolidation. Ledit procédé peut être appliqué grâce à l'utilisation d'une unité d'ondulation/consolidation pourvue d'une bande de transport dotée de dents d'ondulation et/ou consolidation qui peuvent être chauffées individuellement et sélectivement. Le procédé et l'appareil selon la présente invention permettent la production des nids d'abeille, même pour des matériaux thermoplastiques fins en bande à des rythmes de production élevés. Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, les dents transmettent de l'énergie radiante et sont associées à une source d'énergie radiante dirigée à travers lesdites dents vers la surface inférieure de contact creux/bosse.
