Abstract:
(EN) A coupling device (10) is used for joining two pipes (12). Each end of the coupling (10) has a pair of abutting grooves designated inner (16) and outer (18), in its inner surface. Each of inner groove (16) and outer groove (18) has at its largest diameter a substantially flat portion (20, 22) located at its innermost end and then tapers in the direction of the coupling end, forming a ramp portion (26, 28). At the junction between the two grooves (16, 18), the diameter of the outermost groove (18) is greater than the diameter of the innermost groove (16), forming a small circumferential ridge (30). An o-ring (32) is initially set in innermost groove (16) and is compressed as the pipe (12) is pushed into the coupling (10). The o-ring (32) is further compressed as it rolls down ramp portion (26) of the inner groove (16) as the pipe (12) is partially retracted from the coupling (10). As the o-ring (32) is pulled past the circumferential ridge (30), it expands into flat portion (22) of the outer groove (18), forming a seal between the pipe (12) and the coupling (10) and providing a positive indication of sealing.
(FR) L'invention concerne un dispositif d'accouplement (10) utilisé pour accoupler deux tuyaux (12). Chaque extrémité dudit dispositif (10) présente, sur sa surface interne, une paire de rainures adjacentes: une rainure interne (16) et une rainure externe (18). Chacune des rainures internes (16) et des rainures externes (18) présente au niveau de son diamètre le plus grand une partie plate (20, 22) située à l'extrémité la plus à l'intérieur, qui se rétrécit ensuite en direction de l'extrémité d'accouplement, pour se transformer en une partie en forme de rampe (26, 28). A la jonction entre les deux rainures (16, 18), le diamètre de la rainure (18) la plus à l'extérieur est supérieur à celui de la rainure (16) la plus à l'intérieur, et forme une nervure périphérique (30). Un joint torique (32) est placé initialement dans la rainure (16) la plus à l'intérieur et est comprimé lorsque le tuyau (12) est introduit dans le dispositif d'accouplement (10). Ce joint torique (32) est en outre comprimé lorsqu'il est déplacé vers la partie en forme de rampe (26) de la rainure (16) la plus à l'intérieur, au moment où le tuyau est partiellement retiré du dispositif d'accouplement (10). Le passage du joint torique (32) sur la nervure périphérique (30) provoque son extension dans la partie plate (22) de la rainure extérieure (18), ce qui crée une bonne étanchéité entre le tuyau (12) et le dispositif d'accouplement (10).
