Abstract:
(EN) The invention is an automotive ignition system in which a high voltage source (11) is connected to and supplies a continuous RF high-voltage to each spark plug wire (17, 18, 19, 20). The high voltage is capacitively connected to each spark plug wire by placing metal clips (13, 14, 15, 16) on each one of the wires (17, 18, 19, 20) and connecting the high voltage source (11) to each of the metal clips (13, 14, 15, 16). The metal clip and spark plug wire conductor form the two plates of a capacitor with the spark plug wire insulation acting as the dielectric of the capacitor. The application of the high voltage to the spark plug wires produces a continuous corona discharge at the tip (26, 27, 28, 29) of each of the spark plugs in the combustion chambers. The engine head may also be used as one of the corona discharge surfaces.
(FR) Cette invention concerne un système dans lequel une source de tension élevée (11), connectée à chaque fil de bougie (17, 18, 19, 20) d'un système d'allumage d'automobile, envoie continuellement une tension RF à ce fil. Cette tension élevée peut être envoyée de manière capacitive par l'intermédiaire de fixations métalliques (13, 14, 15, 16) placées sur chaque fil de bougie, par la connexion de la source de tension élevée (11) à chacune desdites fixations métalliques (13, 14, 15, 16). La fixation métallique et le conducteur de chaque fil de bougie forment les deux plaques d'un condensateur, le matériau isolant du fil de bougie constituant, quant à lui, le matériau diélectrique du condensateur. L'application d'une tension élevée au fil de la bougie produit une décharge électrique continue de type effluve à l'extrémité (26, 27, 28, 29) de la bougie, à l'intérieur des chambres de combustion. La culasse du moteur peut également être utilisée, comme une des surfaces de décharge de type effluve.
