Abstract

An apparatus for generating synthetic and absolute real time environments within an enclosed real environment such as in a cyclorama (3, 4). The apparatus includes a plurality of transmitters (62) mounted in a fixed known, and spaced-apart locations outside of the real environment. Each of the transmitters are capable of transmitting an electromagnetic signal into the real environment. A camera (2), capable of moving in a plurality of dimensions within the environment, is located within the real environment for capturing a real image of the real environment. A receiver movable with said camera is capable of receiving the electromagnetic signals from the plurality of transmitters. Finally, a camera positioning processing device is linked to the receiver for calculating the location of the camera within the real environment in response to the electromagnetic signals received from the plurality of transmitters. A computer generation system can then utilize this location data to synchronize the real image captured by the camera with a synthetic image generated by the computer.

Dispositif permettant de créer des environnements de synthèse et en temps réel absolu à l'intérieur d'un environnement réel clos, comme dans un cyclorama (3, 4). Le dispositif comprend plusieurs émetteurs (62) installés en des emplacements déterminés, espacés les uns des autres, à l'extérieur de l'environnement réel. Chaque émetteur est capable d'émettre un signal électromagnétique dans l'environnement réel. Une caméra (2) capable de se déplacer dans plusieurs dimensions à l'intérieur de l'environnement, est placée à l'intérieur de l'environnement réel pour capter une image réelle de l'environnement réel. Un récepteur se déplaçant avec ladite caméra est capable de recevoir des signaux électromagnétiques provenant des multiples émetteurs. Enfin, un dispositif de traitement du positionnement de la caméra est relié à l'émetteur, pour caclculer l'emplacement de la caméra à l'intérieur de l'environnement réel en réponse aux signaux électromagnétiques provenant des multiples émetteurs. Un système générateur informatisé peut ensuite utiliser ces données de positionnement pour synchroniser l'image réelle captée par la caméra et l'image de synthèse générée par l'ordinateur.
