The present invention is directed to recombinant expression vectors comprising a suicide gene flanked by site-specific recombination sequences and the use of those expression vectors to produce transgenic plants that facilitate the production of hybrid plants. The transgenic plants produced in accordance with the present invention comprise a novel male-sterility/restorer system, wherein a male sterile plant is cross-fertilized with a restorer plant to produce a hybrid plant.

La présente invention concerne des vecteurs d'expression recombinants comprenant un gène-suicide voisin de séquences de recombinaison spécifiques du site et l'emploi de ces vecteurs d'expression pour produire des plantes transgéniques, ce qui facilite la production de plantes hybrides. Les plantes transgéniques produites selon la présente invention comprennent un système nouveau de stérilité mâle restauration, selon lequel une plante mâle stérile est fertilisée par allogamie avec une plante restauratrice pour produire une plante hybride.
