A semi-active vehicle suspension system employing a shock absorber (1) whose damping characteristics are variable under the control of a signal representing one or more conditions of the vehicle. The system employs a coaxially arranged valve pair (20, 21) to provide one or two fluid flow paths between a chamber (11, 12) of the shock absorber and a reservoir (9). Two such coaxial valve pairs may be used in tandem to control both chambers of the shock absorber in an inverse relationship. Both of the tandem pairs may be controlled by a single spool (54) which is controlled by a single control signal.

L'invention porte sur un système de suspension de véhicule semi-active, mettant en oeuvre un amortisseur de chocs (1) à caractéristiques d'amortissement variables, commandé par un signal représentatif d'une ou de plusieurs conditions d'utilisation du véhicule. Le système utilise un agencement coaxial de soupape double (20, 21) afin de ménager un ou deux passages d'écoulement de fluide entre la chambre (11, 12) où se trouve l'amortisseur et un réservoir (9). On peut utiliser en tandem deux de ces soupapes doubles pour commander les deux chambres de l'amortisseur de choc en relation inverse. Il est possible d'agir sur les deux soupapes doubles fonctionnant en tandem au moyen d'une bobine unique (54) commandée par un seul signal de commande.
