Abstract

The present invention provides jet ink compositions suitable for producing security markings on documents and other articles for subsequent identification. The jet ink composition comprises a fluorescent colorant, an ink carrier, and optionally one or more binder resins. The markings are invisible to the unaided eye and are visible only when excited by ultraviolet light. The colorant comprises a rare earth metal and a chelating ligand, is excitable by ultraviolet light having a wavelength of from about 275 nm to about 400 nm, and fluoresces at a wavelength of from about 550 nm to about 700 nm, with the proviso that when the rare earth metal is europium, dysprosium, or terbium, the chelating ligand is not dibenzoylmethane. The present invention further provides a method of identifying objects comprising providing a security marking as described above, exciting the marking and reading the fluorescent emission. The present invention also provides a system for identification of objects bearing the security markings.

Cette invention a trait à des compositions d'encre par jet se prêtant bien à l'apposition de marques de sécurité sur des documents et autres articles aux fins d'une identification ultérieure. Cette composition comprend un colorant fluorescent, un véhiculeur d'encre et, éventuellement, une ou plusieurs résines de liaison. Les marques, qui, spontanément, ne sont pas visibles, le deviennent mais seulement après avoir été excitées par une lumière ultraviolette. Le colorant, qui comporte un métal des lanthanides ainsi qu'un ligand à action complexante, peut être excité par une lumière ultraviolette dont la longueur d'onde se trouve comprise entre approximativement 25 et 40 nm et devient fluorescent sous l'effet d'une onde dont la longueur est comprise entre approximativement 550 et 700 nm, et ce, à condition que le métal des lanthanides soit de l'europium, du dysprosium ou du terbium et que le ligand à action complexante ne soit pas un dibenzoylméthane. Cette invention, qui porte, de surcroît, sur un procédé permettant d'identifier des objets, consistant à apposer une marque de sécurité ainsi qu'il en a été question plus haut, à exciter cette marque et en lire l'émission fluorescente, concerne également un système permettant d'identifier des objets porteurs de ces marques de sécurité.
