A lock bolt (11) is advanced by engagement of a gear wheel between a lower rack (51) secured to the bolt and a fixed upper rack (49). The gear wheel is mounted on a spindle (45) projecting from a block (41) which is born by a translatable carrier plate (62). The carrier plate is moved by means of a cam (23) which projects from a rotatable barrel (19) of a key-operated mechanism. A restraining plate (27), which secures the block (41) in both extended and retracted positions of the bolt, becomes lifted clear of the block by the cam prior to the cam's engagement with the carrier plate in advancing and retracting the carrier plate.

Selon cette invention, le pêne (11) est actionné par une roue dentée qui s'engrène avec une crémaillère inférieure (51) solidaire du pêne et une crémaillère supérieure fixe (49). La roue est montée sur un axe (45) se projetant à partir d'un bloc (41) monté sur une plaque support pouvant subir une translation (62). La plaque support est déplacée par une came (23) en saillie sur un barillet rotatif (19) faisant partie d'un mécanisme actionné par une clé. Une plaque de retenue (27), qui retient le bloc (41) aussi bien dans la position avancée que dans la position rétractée du pêne, est libéré dudit bloc par la came avant l'engagement de celle-ci dans la plaque support durant l'avancée et le recul de cette dernière.
