The invention pertains to a process for activating a hydrotreating catalyst comprising a Group VIII hydrogenation metal oxide and a Group VI hydrogenation metal oxide on a carrier in which the hydrotreating catalyst is contacted with an additive which is at least one compound selected from the group of compounds comprising at least two hydroxyl groups and 2-10 carbon atoms, and the (poly)ethers of these compounds, after which the catalyst is dried under such conditions that at least 50 % of the additive remains in the catalyst. The additive, is preferably at least one compound selected from ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, and polyethylene glycol, or a saccharide or polysaccharide. The invention additionally pertains to the catalyst obtainable by this process, which shows high activity in hydrodesulphurisation and hydrodenitrogenation reactions, and to the use of the catalyst in hydrotreating.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour activer un catalyseur d'hydrotraitement comprenant, pour l'hydrogénation, un oxyde d'un métal du groupe VIII et un oxyde d'un métal du groupe VI, sur un support. Dans ce procédé, le catalyseur d'hydrotraitement est mis en contact avec un additif consistant en au moins un composé choisi dans le groupe de composés comprenant au moins deux groupes hydroxyle et 2-10 atomes de carbone et les (poly)éthers de ces composés, après quoi le catalyseur est séché dans des conditions telles qu'au moins 50% de l'additif restent dans le catalyseur. L'additif comprend de préférence, au moins un composé choisi parmi l'éthylène glycol, le diéthylène glycol et le polyéthylène glycol, un saccharide ou un polysaccharide. L'invention concerne, en outre, le catalyseur que l'on peut obtenir par ce procédé, ayant une activité d'hydrodésulfuration et d'hydrodésazotation très élevée. L'invention concerne également l'utilisation du catalyseur pour l'hydrotraitement.
