Abstract

A power disconnect switch (10) which employs a plurality of high current relays (RLY1-4) which are simultaneously activated by the application of a control signal to an attached control terminal (T3). By providing a plurality of relays (RLY1-4) arranged in parallel across the power disconnect switch (10), the current flowing through the switch (10) is divided equally among the parallel branches. The resistance of each of the parallel branches is carefully controlled in order to provide a nearly equal resistance in each parallel current flow path. Such a balanced design prevents free wheeling and the creation of thermal noise caused by unbalanced current flow through the parallel paths. Additionally, the power disconnect switch (10) of the present invention includes snubbing diodes (D1-4) which are operative to short any counter-EMF produced by the switching relays (RLY1-4), as well as filtering capacitors (C1-4) which are operative to short circuit any spike voltages to ground.

Sectionneur (10) de courant faisant intervenir une pluralité de relais (RLY1-4) à haute intensité simultanément activés par l'application d'un signal de commande à une borne de commande (T3) reliée. Du fait de la présence d'une pluralité de relais (RLY1-4) disposés en parallèle en travers du sectionneur (10) de courant, le courant passant à travers ledit sectionneur (10) est divisé à égalité entre les dérivations parallèles. La résistance de chacune des dérivations parallèles est soigneusement réglée, de manière à obtenir une résistance pratiquement égale dans chaque branche parallèle de passage de courant. Une configuration aussi équilibrée empêche le phénomène de roue libre et la génération de bruit thermique provoqué par le passage déséquilibré du courant à travers les branches parallèles. De plus, le sectionneur (10) de courant de la présente invention comporte des diodes d'amortissement (D1-4) servant à court-circuiter toute force contre-électromotrice produite par les relais de commutation (RLY1-4), ainsi que des condensateurs de filtrage (C1-4) servant à court-circuiter à la masse les pointes de tension.
