A computer system includes a pair of display devices, such as cathode ray tubes (CRT's) or liquid crystal displays (LCD's) for providing a visible display to a user of the computer system. The computer system includes a video display controller (VDC) providingfor simultaneous display of different images on the pair of display devices. The VDC includes a display data processing circuit (DDPC) which is variably configurable to provide decoding of data words from a first bit-word format as received from a display first-in-first-out (FIFO) memory to a second bit-word format as required by a particular one of the pair of display devices. The DDPC is variably configurable to allow the pair of display devices to each receive driving signals providing the simultaneous differingimages, and which driving signals originate with the bit-words allocated to each particular one of the pair of display devices. Accordingly, the DDPC simultaneously decodes bit-words from the first bit-word format to a pair of second bit-word formats, which second bit-word formats need not be the same, but can differ depending on the type of display device receiving the corresponding driving signals.

Système informatique comportant une paire d'unités d'affichage, telles que des tubes cathodiques (TRC) ou des unités d'affichage à cristaux liquides, pour produire un affichage visible pour un utilisateur dudit système. Ce dernier comporte un contrôleur de visualisation permettant l'affichage simultané de différentes images sur la paire de dispositifs d'affichage. Le contrôleur de visualisation comporte un circuit de traitement des données d'affichage dont la configuration peut varier pour permettre le décodage de mots de données d'un premier format de mots de bits, tel qu'il est reçu d'une mémoire d'affichage premier entré, premier sorti (FIFO), en un second format de mots de bits demandé par l'un des dispositifs d'affichage particuliers de la paire de dispositifs. Le circuit de traitement des données d'affichage a une configuration pouvant varier pour permettre à la paire de dispositifs d'affichage de recevoir chacun des signaux de commande fournissant simultanément des images différentes, lesquels signaux sont émis avec les mots de bits affectés à chacun des dispositifs particuliers de la paire de dispositifs d'affichage. Par conséquent, ledit circuit décode simultanément des mots de bits du premier format de mots de bits en une paire de seconds formats de mots de bits, lesquels ne doivent pas nécessairement être identiques et peuvent différer selon le type de dispositifs d'affichage recevant les signaux de commande correspondants.
