A process is disclosed for manufacturing a lubricant composition comprising combining a superabsorbent polymer with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces. The superabsorbent polymer absorbs from about 25 to greater than 100 times its weight in water and may comprise a polymer of acrylic acid, an acrylic ester, acrylonitrile or acrylamide, including co-polymers thereof or starch graft co-polymers thereof or mixtures thereof. A product produced by the process includes the material for decreasing friction comprising a petroleum lubricant containing an additive, water containing an additive, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, wherein the synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant optionally contain an additive. A process comprising controlling the delivery of a lubricant to at least one of two moving surfaces in order to decrease friction between said moving surfaces, is also disclosed. This process includes applying the lubricant composition to at least one of the surfaces. The lubricant composition in this instance comprises a superabsorbent polymer combined with a material for decreasing friction between moving surfaces, wherein the material for decreasing friction comprises a petroleum lubricant, water, synthetic lubricant, grease, solid lubricant or metal working lubricant, and optionally an additive.

On décrit un procédé de préparation d'une composition de lubrifiant, consistant à combiner un polymère extrêmement absorbant avec un matériau destiné à diminuer la friction entre des surfaces mobiles. Ce polymère absorbe d'environ 25 à plus de 100 fois son poids en eau et il peut comprendre un polymère d'acide acrylique, un ester acrylique, un acrylonitrile ou un acrylamide, y compris des copolymères de ceux-ci ou des copolymères de ceux-ci greffés par amidon, ou des mélanges de ces substances. Un produit obtenu selon ce procédé comprend le matériau destiné à diminuer la friction, lequel est composé d'un lubrifiant dérivé du pétrole et contenant un additif, d'eau contenant un additif, d'un lubrifiant synthétique, de graisse, d'un lubrifiant solide ou d'un lubrifiant servant au travail des métaux, ces lubrifiant synthétique, graisse, lubrifiant solide ou lubrifiant servant au travail des métaux contenant éventuellement un additif. On décrit également un procédé consistant à réguler l'apport d'un lubrifiant en direction d'au moins une des deux surfaces mobiles, de manière à diminuer la friction entre celles-ci. Ce procédé consiste à appliquer la composition de lubrifiant sur au moins l'une de ces surfaces. Cette composition de lubrifiant comprend, dans ce cas, un polymère extrêmement absorbant combiné à un matériau destiné à diminuer la friction entre des surfaces mobiles, ledit matériau étant composé d'un lubrifiant dérivé du pétrole, d'eau, d'un lubrifiant synthétique, de graisse, d'un lubrifiant solide ou d'un lubrifiant servant au travail des métaux, ainsi qu'éventuellement d'un additif.
