The present invention provides a packaging assembly for the storage of an organic compound, e.g., a biocide such as 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid, comprising a first container holding the organic compound to which is attached a second container holding microbes (preferably dried microbes) capable of degrading the organic compound. When the first container has been substantially emptied of the organic compound, a residue of the organic compound is left in the first container. The addition of the microbes to the residue effects the biodegradation of the residue. Preferably, the packaging assembly also includes an assay for residues of the organic compound to allow one to determine whether biodegradation is complete. The present invention also provides compositions and methods for decontaminating containers for organic compounds.

La présente invention concerne un système d'emballage pour recevoir un composé organique, par exemple un biocide du type acide 2,4-dichlorophénoxyacétique, comprenant un premier récipient pour recevoir le composé organique, auquel est fixé un second récipient contenant des microbes (de préférence des microbes déshydratés) capables de dégrader le composé organique. Quand le premier récipient a été vidé de l'essentiel du composé organique, il reste du composé organique résiduel. L'addition de microbes à ce résidu entraîne sa biodégradation. De préférence, le conditionnement peut également comporter un moyen de dosage pour détecter les résidus de composé organique et déterminer si la biodégradation est complète. La présente invention concerne également des compositions et des procédés pour décontaminer les récipients ayant contenu des composés organiques.
