Methods for photocleavage of a polymer of ribonucleic acid using a photosensitive texaphyrin are provided. A preferred method of use is the site-specific photocleavage of a polymer of ribonucleic acid and a preferred photosensitive texaphyrin is a derivatized texaphyrin having binding specificity, in particular, a texaphyrin covalently coupled to a site-directing molecule, preferably an oligonucleotide. Possible substrates for photocleavage include messenger, ribosomal, transfer, small nuclear, and small cytosolic ribonucleic acids, and ribonucleic acid cofactors, thereby inactivating these ribonucleic acids and providing a multifaceted approach for treating benign or malignant cancer cells, or other undesired cells or tissues.

Cette invention concerne des procédés de clivage d'un polymère d'acide ribonucléique faisant appel à une texaphyrine photosensible. Un procédé d'utilisation préféré consiste en un photoclivage spécifique d'un site d'un polymère d'acide ribonucléique, tandis qu'une texaphyrine photosensible préférée consiste en une texaphyrine dérivée présentant une spécificité de liaison, notamment une texaphyrine couplée de manière covalente à une molécule présentant une spécificité vis-à-vis des sites ciblés et, de préférence, à un oligonucléotide. Les substrats pouvant être utilisés lors du photoclivage comprennent des acides ribonucléiques messagers, ribosomiques, de transfert, nucléaires de petite taille, et cytosoliques de petit taille, ainsi que des cofacteurs d'acide ribonucléique, ce qui permet d'inactiver ces acides ribonucléiques et d'offrir divers procédés de traitement de cellules cancéreuses bénignes ou malignes, ou encore, d'autres cellules ou tissus indésirables.
