Abstract

Aqueous forming size compositions for treating a plurality of glass fibers include an oleophobic starch; an N-vinyl amide polymer; a wax component containing an ester formed from reacting (a) a monocarboxylic acid and (b) a monohydric alcohol; an emulsifying agent for the wax component; and a cationic lubricant different from the wax component. The forming size composition is essentially free of: (1) oleophilic starches; (2) polyolefin emulsions; and (3) preservatives selected from organometallic compounds, formaldehydes, derivatives and mixtures thereof. Glass fibers sized and coated with such compositions can be woven into fabrics.

Compositions d'encollage aqueuses servant à traiter une pluralité de fibres de verre pendant leur production et comprenant un amidon oléophobe; un polymère d'amide de N-vinyle; un constituant cireux contenant un ester obtenu par la réaction (a) d'un acide monocarboxylique et (b) d'un alcool monohydrique; un agent émulsifiant du constituant cireux; un lubrifiant cationique différent du constituant cireux. Cette composition d'encollage est exempte (1) d'amidons oléophiles; (2) d'émulsions de polyoléfines; (3) de conservateurs sélectionnés parmi des composés organométalliques, des formaldéhydes, leurs dérivés ou leurs mélanges. On peut tisser les fibres de verre encollées et revêtues par lesdites compositions, afin d'obtenir des tissus.
