Abstract

A rotor (1) for an electrical machine comprises a plurality of generally equi-angularly spaced magnets (13). The rotor further comprises at least one fan blade (17, 19). In a preferred embodiment, the blades (17, 19) are arranged in pairs between respective magnets (13). The magnets may be secured to a surface of the rotor by a mechanical means in the form of projections from the surface, e.g. forming part of the fan blades. Air enters the rota through the centre and is impelled radially outwards by the fan blades so as to cool the magnets. Air leaves the rotor at its circumference. Also described is an electrical machine comprising at least one concentrically mounted diffuser disc (102 - Figs. 7 to 13) having a plurality of circumferential equi-angularly spaced diffuser fins (110) mounted thereon. The diffuser fins act to diffuse cooling air after it has left the rotor. This converts velocity energy into pressure, leads to a greater pumping efficiency and hence more air flow for a given rota speed.

Le rotor (1) d'une machine électrique décrite comporte une pluralité d'aimants (13) placés suivant un espacement équiangle. Le rotor comporte en outre au moins une pale de ventilateur (17, 19). Dans un mode de réalisation préféré, les pales (17, 19) sont disposées par paires entre les aimants correspondants (13). Les aimants peuvent être fixés à une surface du rotor par un dispositif mécanique prenant la forme de saillies, par exemple formant partie des pales. L'air pénètre dans le rotor par le centre et est refoulé radialement vers l'extérieur par les pales de ventilateur, ce qui refroidit les aimants. L'air sort du rotor à la circonférence de celui-ci. Est également décrite une machine électrique constituée d'au moins un disque diffuseur monté de façon concentrique (102 - Figures 7 à 13), comportant une pluralité d'ailettes de diffusion (110) placées suivant un espacement circonférentiel équiangle, montées sur le disque. Les ailettes de diffusion diffusent l'air de refroidissement après sa sortie du rotor, ce qui transforme l'énergie cinétique en pression, apporte une meilleure efficacité de pompage et un débit d'air supérieur pour une vitesse de rotor donnée.
