Abstract

Methods of treating animals to maintain or elevate CD-4 and CD-8 cell levels and to prevent or alleviate the adverse effects on the animal caused by the production or exogenous administration of tumor necrosis factor (TNF) or by a virus consist of administering to the animal a safe and effective amount of a conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) or a substance which is converted in the animal into CLA. A method of preparing CLA employing a bacteria isolated from a rat colon is also disclosed.

L'invention concerne des procédés de traitement d'animaux pour maintenir des niveaux élevés de cellules CD-4 et CD-8 et pour prévenir ou diminuer les effets néfastes provoqués par la production ou l'administration exogène du facteur de nécrose des tumeurs (TNF). Ce traitement consiste à administrer à l'animal une dose efficace et sans danger d'acide linoléique conjugué (CLA) ou d'une substance qui est convertie chez l'animal en acide linoléique conjugué. Le procédé de préparation fait appel à une bactérie isolée à partir du colon du rat.
