A process for the preparation of a supported catalyst for use in the synthesis of methacrolein and methacrylic acid comprising a catalytically active susbtance composed of a double oxide containing molybdenum and bismuth as the essential components and an inert carrier supporting the active substance on the inner and/or outer surface thereof, which process comprises drying a solution or aqueous slurry of a mixture of compounds of the elements constituting the above catalytically active substance, subjecting the obtained dry mixture to first firing at 220 to 400 °C to form a catalytically active substance precursor, atomizing the same until the median diameter in the volume-base particle size distribution reaches 10 $g(m)m or below, supporting the resulting particulate on an inert carrier, and subjecting the supported particulate to second firing at a temperature higher than that of the first firing by at least 100 °C.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un catalyseur fixé sur support, pour la synthèse de la méthacroléine et de l'acide méthacrylique. Ce catalyseur comprend une substance à activité catalytique, constituée d'un double oxyde comportant du molybdène et du bismuth comme composants essentiels, et un support inerte qui porte la substance active à sa surface intérieure et/ou extérieure. Le procédé comprend le séchage d'une solution ou d'une boue aqueuse d'un mélange de composants constituant la substance, à activité catalytique, mentionnée plus haut, la cuisson du mélange sec obtenu à une température de 220 à 400 °C pour former un précurseur catalytique, l'atomisation de ce dernier jusqu'à ce que le diamètre médian, dans la granulométrie volumique, atteigne 10 $g(m)m ou au-dessous, puis on fait porter les particules obtenues par un support inerte et l'on fait subir aux particules fixées sur un support une deuxième cuisson, à une température supérieure d'au moins 100 °C à celle de la première cuisson.
