Abstract

An artificial marble comprising a polymer (A) of a radical-polymerizable vinyl compound, an inorganic filler (B) with an average particle diameter of 1 $g(m)m or above, and a colloidal metal oxide (C) with an average particle diameter of 1-100 nm, wherein the oxide (C) is homogeneously dispersed in the polymer (A) substantially in the form of primary particles. The homogeneous dispersion of the oxide (C) serves to impart a remarkable noncombustibility to the marble and permit a higher loading of the inorganic component without detriment to the excellent decorativeness peculiar to artificial marble.

La présente invention concerne un marbre artificiel fait d'un polymère (A) de composé vinyle à polymérisation radicalaire, d'une substance de remplissage inorganique (B) dont le diamètre particulaire moyen est d'au moins 1 $g(m)m et d'un oxyde métallique colloïdal (C) de diamètre particulaire moyen allant de 1 à 100 nm. Dans cette composition, l'oxyde est réparti de manière homogène dans le polymère (A), sensiblement sous forme de particules primaires. La dispersion homogène de l'oxyde (C) permet de conférer au marbre des qualités d'incombustibilité remarquables, et autorise une charge plus importante en composants inorganiques, sans que cela ne nuise aux excellentes qualités décoratives caractérisant le marbre artificiel.
