A suspension system with a contained force system concentrates loads in the suspension geometry control elements. This permits elimination of large, heavy load bearing structures in remote areas of the vehicle, use of a compact, modular structure, and combination of suspension geometry control and spring/damping in one unit. The modular suspension system for a wheeled vehicle comprises a wheel and hub assembly, a relatively heavier vehicle body, an interposed energy storage medium, and means to releasably store energy in the medium to any predetermined degree at any relative position between the wheel and hub assembly and the vehicle body upon relative movement between them.

L'invention porte sur un dispositif de suspension doté d'un système de rétention des forces et qui concentre les charges dans les organes de commande de la géométrie de la suspension. Ainsi, on supprime les structures portantes, de grande dimension et lourdes situées dans des endroits éloignés du véhicule, et on peut utiliser une structure compacte et modulaire et réunir en un seul organe la commande de la géométrie de la suspension et l'amortissement élastique. Ce dispositif de suspension modulaire destiné à un véhicule à roues comporte un ensemble roue et moyeu, une carrosserie de véhicule relativement plus lourde, un organe d'accumulation d'énergie interposé et des moyens permettant d'emmagasiner dans ce dernier cette énergie, qui pourra ultérieurement être libérée, à un degré prédéterminé quelconque, dans n'importe quelle position relative entre l'ensemble roue et moyeu, d'une part, et la carrosserie du véhicule d'autre part lors d'un movement relatif entre eux.
