A system for recording and playing back multimedia events includes recording sources (201), a preprocessor (300), a delivery processor (400), and user control units (500). The recording sources each captures a track of the multimedia event and transmit the captured track to the source preprocessor where tracks are coded into digital blocks and digitized blocks of tracks received simultaneously are time stamped with the same relative time, and therefore synchronized in time. Tracks of the multimedia event are also compressed and preprocessed to generate other representations of the multimedia event, which further assist users in searching through the media event. The delivery processor services users' requests for multimedia events and delivers events to requesting users according to users' interactive commands. The delivery also generates stacked representations of the tracks of the multimedia event which representations provide visual cues to assist the user in conducting rapid and intelligent searches through the multimedia event. The user control unit receives requests and interactive commands from the user to be transmitted to the delivery processors and multimedia events from the delivery processor for presentation to the user.

Un système permettant d'enregistrer et de relire des événements multimedia comprend des sources (201) d'enregistrement, un préprocesseur (300), un processeur (400) de remise et des unités (500) de commande utilisateur. Les sources d'enregistrement captent chacune une voie de l'événement multimedia et l'envoient au préprocesseur source au niveau duquel les voies sont codées sous forme de blocs numériques et les blocs numérisés de voies reçus simultanément sont horodatés avec la même heure relative, et sont par conséquent synchronisés dans le temps. Les voies de l'événement multimedia sont également comprimées et prétraitées de sorte que d'autres représentations de l'événement multimedia soient générées, qui aident ensuite les utilisateurs dans leur recherche de l'événement multimedia. Le processeur de remise prend en charge les demandes des utilisateurs concernant les événements multimedia et fournit des événements aux utilisateurs demandeurs en fonction des commandes interactives de ces derniers. Le processeur de remise génère également des représentations superposées des voies de l'événement multimedia, ces représentations fournissant des répères visuels qui aident l'utilisateur à effectuer des recherches rapides et intelligentes dans l'événement multimedia.
