Abstract

A metal support disk (10) for an electrochemical cell seal exerts a resilient outward radial force against the seal to maintain seal integrity over a wide range of operating temperature and, at the same time, exerts an upward force against the bottom of the metal end cap terminal of the cell to assure electrical contact between the anode inside the cell and the terminal. The disk includes a central, circular platform (14) connected to an outer, sealing edge sealing flange (28) by an annular flexure means which permits radially inward and outward movement of the sealing edge (30) when the end of the cell is radially crimped during the sealing process. The crimping also moves the central portion (12) of the disk up which results in the upward force being exerted against the end terminal. The flexure means is a sequential series of three annular, curved ribs with the first (20) and third (26) curved downward and the second (24) curved upward. A ring (22) depending radially outward and at an upward angle from the first rib connects the first rib to the second rib and helps to prevent plastic deformation of the disk sealing.

Disque support métallique (10) de fermeture de pile électrochimique exerçant une pression radiale résiliente vers l'extérieur contre la fermeture pour maintenir l'intégrité du couvercle sur une large plage de températures de fonctionnement tout en exerçant une force ascendante contre le fond de la borne d'embout métallique de la pile pour assurer un contact électrique entre l'anode à l'intérieur de la pile et ladite borne. Le disque comprend une partie plane circulaire (14) et centrale reliée à un bord extérieur du bourrelet (28) de fermeture par un élément annulaire flexible qui autorise un mouvement radial vers l'intérieur et vers l'extérieur du bord de fermeture (30) lorsque la pile est sertie radialement pendant le processus d'obturation. Le sertissage repousse la partie centrale (12) du disque vers le haut, une force ascendante étant ainsi appliquée sur la borne d'extrémité. L'élément flexible est constitué par une suite de trois nervures annulaires recourbées, la première (20) et la troisième (26) l'étant vers le bas et la deuxième (24) vers le haut. Un anneau saillant radialement vers l'extérieur et incliné vers le haut par rapport à la première nervure relie cette dernière à la seconde ce qui contribue à prévenir les déformations du disque de fermeture.
