Abstract

An optical displacement sensor is used to measure the rotary displacement between two shafts (2, 4) which rotate together. By connecting the shafts (2, 4) together by means of a torsion bar (6), the sensor may be used to measure transmitted torque. The sensor comprises first and second coaxial discs (10, 12) mounted on the shafts (2, 4) and having slots (16, 18) formed therein. A light source (20) directs light through the slots (16, 18) onto an array (22) of photodetectors and a data processor (24) determines the displacement or torque from the positions on the array (22) of images of the slot edges.

On utilise un capteur optique pour mesurer le déplacement rotatif entre deux arbres (2, 4) qui tournent ensemble. En raccordant ensemble les arbres (2, 4) au moyen d'une barre de torsion (6), on peut utiliser le capteur pour mesurer le couple transmis. Ce capteur comprend des premier et second disques (10, 12) coaxiaux montés sur les arbres (2, 4) et dans lesquels on a formé des fentes (16, 18). Une source (20) de lumière dirige de la lumière à travers les fentes (16, 18) en direction d'un réseau (22) de photodétecteurs et à l'aide d'un processeur (24) de données on détermine le déplacement ou couple à partir des positions sur le réseau (22) d'images des bords des fentes.
