Abstract

A turbocharger (2, 3) for an internal combustion engine (40) is provided with a combustion chamber (7) between its inlet and outlet to provide extra power and to enable it to function as an auxiliary power unit. The turbocharger is coupled to a motor/generator (4) which can be used as a motor for starting and as a generator during normal running. In other embodiments an auxiliary turbocharger has an output port connected to an input port of the auxiliary combustion chamber.

Turbocompresseur (2, 3) destiné à un moteur à combustion interne, et comprenant une chambre (7) de combustion placée entre son orifice d'admission et son orifice d'échappement afin d'apporter une puissance supplémentaire et de permettre au turbocompresseur de fonctionner en tant qu'unité de puissance auxiliaire. On a couplé ce turbocompresseur à un moteur/générateur (4) susceptible d'être utilisé en tant que moteur destiné au démarrage et en tant que générateur lors du fonctionnement normal. Dans d'autres modes de réalisation, un turbocompresseur auxiliaire possède un orifice de sortie raccordé à un orifice d'entrée de la chambre de combustion auxiliaire.
