Abstract

An electrolytic cell (10) and electrolytic process wherein the cell includes a metal anode (12) (such as a lithium anode), a cathode (14) and a transfer of ions from the metal anode (12) to the electrolyte (16) and thus allows the ions of pass back into contact with the metal anode (12). The surface layer (18) is also electronically conductive so that the ions will be uniformally attracted back onto the metal anode (12) during electrodeposition to, in turn, substantially suppress dendrite growth and, in turn, substantially increase the cycle life of the cell (10).

Cellule (10) et procédé électrolytiques, la cellule comprenant une anode (12) de métal (telle qu'une anode de lithium), une cathode (14), ainsi que des moyens de transfert d'ions de l'anode (12) à l'électrolyte (16), et permettant ainsi aux ions de revenir en contact avec l'anode (12) de métal.
