Die Erfindung bezieht sich auf eine Mikrowellenlampe (5) mit einem Mikrowellengenerator (50) zum Erzeugen von Mikrowellenstrahlung, einem aus einem Metalldrahtkäfig gebildeten Mikrowellenresonator (51) zum Bündeln dieser Mikrowellenstrahlung und mit einem innerhalb des Mikrowellenresonators (51) angeordneten abgeschlossenen Brenner (52), der mit einem inerten Gas, z.B. Argon, sowie einem im angeregten Energiezustand sichtbare Strahlung emittierenden Element, z.B. Schwefel, gefüllt ist. Den Brenner (52) umgebend ist eine sich senkrecht und quer zur Symmetrieachse (2) der Mikrowellenlampe (5) erstreckende, vom Brenner (52) nach außen öffnende, optisch wirksame, Mikrowellenstrahlung dagegen transmittierende Reflektoranordnung (4) vorgesehen. Dabei dient diese Reflektoranordnung (4) dazu, die vom Brenner (52) emittierte optische Strahlung in einer zur Symmetrieachse (2) senkrechten Richtung vorzukollimieren, so daß sich mit der so ausgerüsteten Mikrowellenlampe (5) in Verbindung mit einer entsprechend ausgebildeten Leuchte bei günstigen geometrischen Abmessungen ihres Reflektors unterschiedliche, insbesondere auch eng gebündelte Lichtausstrahlungscharakteristiken erzielen lassen.

A microwave lamp (5) has a microwave generator (50) for generating microwave radiation, a microwave resonator (51) made of a metal wire cage for focusing the microwave radiation and an enclosed burner (52) arranged within the microwave resonator (51) and filled with an inert gas such as argon and with an element that emits visible radiation when excited, for example sulphur. A reflector (4) that reflects visible radiation but transmits microwave radiation surrounds the burner (52) and extends outwards therefrom perpendicularly and transversely to the axis of symmetry (2) of the microwave lamp (5). A microwave lamp (5) equipped with such a reflector and combined with a corresponding lighting device allows various light radiation characteristics to be obtained, in particular narrowly focused light radiation, with a reflector having advantageous geometric dimensions.
