Abstract

A sound detection and ranging (SODAR) system for taking wind measurements by sending out acoustic pulses and then measuring acoustic energy reflected back to the instrument by the atmosphere. The acoustic pulses are formed using digital beamforming technology which allows the acoustic pulses to be steered independent of frequency due to a time delay design. The antenna array (12) and array electronics (14) comprises an array of transducer elements surrounded by an antenna cuff (36) which itself is secured in place by guy wires (38),turnbuckles (40), and earth anchors (42). The array of transducer elements is situated on an antenna base (44) which itself is supported by support stand (46).

Un sondeur acoustique atmosphérique (SODAR) permet d'effectuer des mesures du vent en émettant des impulsions acoustiques puis en mesurant l'énergie acoustique renvoyée vers l'instrument par l'atmosphère. Les impulsions acoustiques sont formées à l'aide d'une technique numérique de formation du faisceau qui permet de les diriger indépendamment de la fréquence grâce à une conception impliquant une temporisation. L'antenne réseau (12) ainsi que les circuits électroniques (14) de ladite antenne sont réalisés sous forme d'une matrice d'éléments transducteurs entourés d'un cornet d'antenne (36) lui-même maintenu en place par haubanage (38) à ridoirs (40) et ancrage en terre (42). La matrice d'éléments transducteurs est située dans une base d'antenne (44) reposant elle-même sur un socle support (46).
