Abstract

The invention relates to a method of coating a luminescent material with a layer of a metal oxide M2O3 wherein a metal M is chosen from the group formed by Y and Al. The invention also relates to a coated luminescent material and to a low-pressure mercury discharge lamp. According to the invention, the luminescent material is first introduced into a solution of a salt of the metal M, then a compound of the metal M is deposited on the luminescent material through homogeneous precipitation, and subsequently the luminescent material is separated from the solution, dried, and heated. It is achieved thereby that the luminescent material will absorb mercury to a low degree only, and that accordingly the colour point of a low-pressure mercury discharge lamp whose luminescent layer comprises a luminescent material coated in accordance with the invention only shows a small shift as the lamp ages.

L'invention concerne un procédé pour appliquer un revêtement sur un substrat luminescent avec une couche d'un oxyde métallique M2O3, où le métal M est choisi dans le groupe constitué par Y et Al. L'invention concerne également un substrat luminescent portant ce revêtement et une lampe à vapeur de mercure à basse pression. Selon l'invention, on introduit d'abord le substrat luminescent dans une solution d'un sel du métal M, puis on dépose un composé du métal M sur le substrat luminescent par une précipitation homogène, et finalement on sort le substrat luminescent de la solution, on le sèche et on le chauffe. De cette manière, on obtient un substrat luminescent qui ne va absorber que peu le mercure, et par conséquent, la couleur émise par une lampe à vapeur de mercure à basse pression dont la couche luminescente comprend un substrat luminescent portant un revêtement selon l'invention ne montre qu'une faible dérive lorsque la lampe vieillit.
