Ein erfindungsgemäßes, geschäumtes Polyarylensulfid besitzt eine um mindestens 50 % verringerte Dichte, verglichen mit der theoretischen Dichte von ungeschäumtem Material, und wird zweckmäßigerweise herstellt, indem ein Polyarylensulfoxid als solches oder ein Gemisch von einem oder mehreren Polyarylensulfiden mit einem Polyarylensulfoxid einer thermischen Behandlung unterzogen wird. Die Temperatur der thermischen Behandlung liegt im Bereich von 250 bis 400 °C.

A polyarylene sulphide foam has a density reduced by at least 50 % compared with the theoretical density of non-foamed material. In order to produce the polyarylene sulphide foam, polyarylene sulphoxide is subjected alone or mixed with one or several polyarylene sulphides to a thermal treatment at a temperature in a range from 250 to 400 °C.

Une mousse en sulfure de polyarylène a une densité réduite d'au moins 50 % par rapport à la densité théorique du même matériau non alvéolaire. Afin de produire cette mousse en sulfure de polyarylène, on soumet à un traitement thermique un oxyde sulfonique de polyarylène pur ou mélangé avec un ou plusieurs sulfures de polyarylène. La température de traitement thermique est comprise entre 250 et 400 °C.
