(FR) ENVELOPPE EN PLASTIQUE A RUPTURE, DESTINEE A UN GONFLEUR DE SAC GONFLABLE
Abstract
(EN)
An inflator (100) for an inflatable vehicle occupant restraint system, such as an air bag, includes a housing (102) formed by a plastic shell (110) encased in fiber windings (114). The shell (110) is rupturable upon the production of a predetermined combustion gas pressure internally of the housing (102) to effect venting of the gases via apertures (120) into the air bag for inflation thereof. The use of a plastic inflator housing (102) achieves a significant reduction in inflator weight and manufacturing cost.
(FR)
