A liquid composition is provided which is used for 'self-sealing' of punctures in tubed or tubeless vehicle tyres after a tyre is inadvertently punctured. The liquid composition contains 0.7 to 5 % fibre or particle filler, 0.5 to 15 % colloidal silica, 4 to 30 % glycol, from 1 to 8 % tackifier and 0.3 to 5 % surfactant, with the balance being water, providing the composition has a working viscosity (a viscosity as found in an operating vehicle tyre) of less than 20 cps. All percentages are by weight. The method of preventing inadvertent loss of air from pneumatic tyres by incorporating such a composition within the tyre is also claimed.

Une composition liquide est utilisée pour 'l'auto-obturation' de crevaison de pneus avec ou sans chambre à air d'un véhicule, après que le pneu ait creuvé. La compositon liquide contient entre 0,7 et 5 % d'un matériau de remplissage à base de fibres de particules, de 0,5 à 15 % de silice coloïdale, de 4 à 30 % de glycol, de 1 à 8 % d'un agent collant et de 0,3 à 5 % d'un tensioactif, le reste étant constitué d'eau. La composition possède une viscosité de fonctionnement (viscosité telle que celle d'un pneumatique de véhicule en fonctionnement) inférieure à 20 cps. Tous les pourcentages sont des pourcentages pondéraux. Un procédé de prévention de la perte d'air inadvertante de pneumatiques par incorpporation de ladite composition dans le pneumatique est également revendiqué.
