A self-supporting filter unit having at least one passage (10) defined by wall portions (12) made from air-permeable fibre fabric, through which wall portions air can pass and be drawn off along the passage but which prevent the passage therethrough of dust and/or other debris carried by such air, in which the passage is closed off at one end portion and at the other end portion there is formed integral with said wall portions a rigid mounting portion (16) into which the passage (10) opens whereby the filter unit can be supported as part of a filter assembly, wherein the mounting portion (16) comprises a first reinforcing portion (18) of material around and secured with said fabric of the wall portion parts of the first reinforcing portion and fabric integral therewith remote from said one end being outwardly flanged, and wherein the mounting portion (16) further comprises a second reinforcing portion (20, 21) of material positioned over the outwardly flanged portions and secured thereto, said second reinforcing portion having an aperture (19, 23) formed therein corresponding to the open end of the passage (10).

Filtre auto-porteur possédant au moins un passage (10) délimité par des portions (12) de paroi fabriquées dans un tissu à base de fibres perméables à l'air, portions à travers lesquelles l'air peut passer afin de circuler le long dudit passage, mais pas la poussière ni/ou d'autre débris portés par l'air. Ledit passage est fermé sur une extrémité et au niveau de son autre extrémité, on a assemblé en un seul bloc lesdites portions de paroi et un élément (16) supérieur rigide sur lequel s'ouvre le passage (10), le filtre pouvant ainsi être supporté en tant que partie d'un ensemble filtre dans lequel l'élément (16) supérieur comprend une première portion (18) de matériau renforçateur qui est disposée autour du tissu des portions de paroi de la première portion de renforcement et est fixée sur celui-ci, le tissu étant ainsi monobloc avec ledit élément; lesdites portions de paroi éloignées de la première extrémité s'évasent vers l'extérieur en formant des rebords, et la portion (16) supérieure comprend en outre une seconde portion (20, 21) de renforcement d'un matériau qui est placé sur les portions évasées et est fixé sur celles-ci, cette seconde portion de renforcement étant dotée d'une ouverture (19, 23) correspondant à l'extrémité ouverte du passage (10).
