Abstract

A service node provides a shared added value service within a telephony network, such as a public switch telephone network. Peripheral devices (21, 22, 23), such as speech applications platforms shared announcement platforms and message recording platforms, are connected to a switch (25) which operates under the control of a central control computer (24). The switch includes distributed processors (38, 52) responsive to externally originating signals, such as DTMF signals, generated while calls are being processed. The distributed processing devices supply information derived from said signals to the central control computer. Thus, it is no longer necessary for a central control computer to examine on-going calls in order to detect the presence of DTMF signalling. Detection of DTMF signalling is performed locally and information is returned back to the control computer only when relevant information has been detected. In this way, the size of the switch may be increased relative to the size of the control computer and the level of bandwidth required between the control computer and the switch is significantly reduced.

N÷ud de services fournissant un service à valeur ajoutée partagé à l'intérieur d'un réseau téléphonique p. ex. du type réseau publique commuté. Des périphériques (21, 22, 23) tels que des plates-formes d'applications vocales, d'annonces communes ou d'enregistrement de messages sont reliés à un commutateur (25) placé sous le contrôle d'un ordinateur de commande central (24). Le commutateur comporte des processeurs répartis (38, 52) répondant à des signaux provenant de l'extérieur, p. ex. du type multifréquence en code (DTMF) produits pendant que les appels sont en cours de traitement. Les processeurs répartis fournissent à l'ordinateur de commande central des informations tirées desdits signaux. Il n'est donc plus nécessaire que l'ordinateur central analyse les appels en cours pour y détecter la présence de signaux DTMF, cette détection ayant lieu localement et les informations n'étant renvoyées vers l'ordinateur central que si une information pertinente a été détectée. On peut ainsi augmenter la taille du commutateur par rapport à celle de l'ordinateur de commande tandis que la largeur de bande requise pour les transmissions entre l'ordinateur central et le commutateur peut être sensiblement réduite.
