A method and system (100) for resolving contention between a plurality of subscriber units (102, 104, 106) for transmitting data packets to a base site (114), providing each subscriber unit (102, 104, 106) including a contention resolver (108, 110, 112) for randomly generating echo bits and transmitting the packet having the echo bits and a transmit access request to the base site (114), and the base site (114), responsive to the packets received from subscriber units (102, 104, 106), for decoding a first received packet, granting access of packet channel to the subscriber unit (102) of the first received packet, and transmitting the echo bits to all subscriber units (102, 104, 106) to indicate that the subscriber unit (102) has been granted access to the packet channel.

Méthode et système (100) permettant de résoudre la concurrence entre plusieurs unités d'abonnés (102, 104, 106) pour l'émission de paquets de données en direction d'une station de base (114). Chaque unité d'abonnés (102, 104, 106) comporte un résolveur de conflits d'accès (108, 110, 112) qui émet de manière aléatoire des bits d'écho et qui transmet le paquet comprenant les bits d'écho ainsi qu'une demande d'accès à la station de base (114). La station de base (114) qui réagit aux paquets provenant des unités d'abonnés (102, 104, 106), décode le premier paquet reçu, accorde l'accès d'une voie de communication par paquet à l'unité d'abonnés (102) du premier paquet reçu et transmet les bits d'écho à toutes les unités d'abonnés (101, 104, 106) pour indiquer que l'unité d'abonnés (102) a obtenu l'accès à la voie de communication par paquet.
