A musical instrument responsive controller (6) and method generate at least three control signals which are respectively responsive to pitch, amplitude and at least one timbral characteristic of a sound produced from the instrument (4). Although these signals can control various output effects regardless of their relationship to the input sound or to sound in general, in one application the control signals drive a synthesizer (8) to produce a synthesized musical sound that has not only a controlled pitch and amplitude but also a controlled timbre. This control can occur with respect to each note played on the controlling musical instrument and with respect to each note produced in response.

Système de commande (6) et procédé associé permettant d'émettre au moins trois signaux de commande en réponse à la hauteur, à l'amplitude et au moins à l'une des caractéristiques du timbre d'un son émis par un instrument de musique (4) guide. Bien que ces signaux puissent commander différents effets musicaux indépendamment de leur rapport avec le son guide, ou le son en général, dans l'une des variantes les signaux de commande pilotent un synthétiseur (8) en vue de la production d'un son musical de synthèse dont on peut fixer non seulement la hauteur et l'amplitude, mais également le timbre. Cette commande peut réagir en réponse à chacune des notes jouées sur l'instrument de musique guide et à chacune des notes émises en réponse.
